Winter in South Africa

When I think of Winter, I think of preparing for Thanksgiving, watching football games, preparing a Christmas shopping list, coffee, hot cocoa, bonfires, etc...Well, I can do some of these things here still, but it is JUNE! It's still so strange to me having our seasons backwards from how I have experienced them my entire life. Winters here surely never get as cold or snowy as the Pittsbugh Winters that I am used to, but it seems so cold inside due to the fact that there is no central heating here. Today is a low of 41 degrees F with a high of 68. Everyone uses heated flooring or space heaters to keep warm, so waking up in the morning we tend to freeze and go OUTSIDE to warm up, lol! Another kicker is that since Gia now attends an American International school here, they run on the same school calendar as the states and she is now off for "winter break" til August. But, there will be no swimming, beaches or fairs this break. As awkward as this is for me, what is even harder is when October rolls around and we spend all of the holidays in 90ish degree weather and even swimming n Christmas Day. As enjoyable as it is, I surely do miss my snow for Christmas! One interesting part of Winter in June is that we get to fall asleep to the loud sounds of the roaring lions from the farm across the street. While this sound use to make me anxious, I have now grown to find comfort in it. Even though I still have the occasional dream about lions chasing me, lol! ;) Cheers!

Kenley Turns 4!

Our youngest daughter, Kenley turned 4 this month. To celebrate, we had a Rapunzel Princess party at her school with her friends. Our babysitters even came dressed up as princessed to do hair, nails and face painting. And, I, took a shot at my first fondant cake, with a lot of help from a couple of friends and it turned out fantastic! Happy Birthday Kenley!
